Emma Fernald

Emma grew up between Mount Desert Island and Little Cranberry Island. She comes from a multi-generational commercial fishing family and currently works as a sternman on her father’s lobster boat in hopes of getting her own lobster license someday soon, while also running Bay Lady Scallops. She graduated from Lesley University with a BFA in Ceramics but came back to her roots on the Cranberry Isles full time and began working on the water.

This painting was done by Stephen Hillenberg, the creator of Spongebob and longtime summer resident of Little Cranberry Island. It is a painting of Emma’s dad’s last wooden lobster boat, the Bay Lady.
